The International Fencing Federation (FIE) created a new position in its management, and appointed Mr. Barna Héder (50) to act as Director of FIE Television Production.
Barna Héder, a Hungarian economist, has been in the television business since 1984, and the director/producer of the fencing events of the Olympic Games since 1996. He is now preparing for his fifth Olympics in London.
"We need to improve our general television appearance, especially during World- and Regional Championships, and for that we need a strong professional background. Barna, as a former national champion in fencing, and the creator of a new concept for fencing television broadcasts in 1996 that strengthened the position of our sport after the Barcelona Games was an obvious choice," said Maxim Paramonov, the Secretary
General of the International Fencing Federation.
Mr. Héder, formerly Head of Sports of RTL Klub, Hungary for nine years, said he is to happy to join the international fencing family: "I grew up in sports, my father was a gymnast Olympian in Melbourne, later I became a sports commentator and presenter, so my passion for sports stands above everything. In the past decade I learnt what today's television wants from sports, so I hope to bring an attitude to the fencing world that would be appreciated by both sides."
