Rio Olympics Sponsor Nissan Named First Sponsor of Paralympics |

Paralympics - 15 Jun 2012 - Nissan, the Japanese car maker and a domestic sponsor of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, has been unveiled as the first commercial partner of the subsequent Paralympics in the Brazilian city.
It also becomes a sponsor of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee with immediate effect, meaning that it will provide vehicles for the national team at this year’s Paralympics in London.
As the automotive partner of the 2016 Paralympics, Nissan will provide more than 2,000 vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, pickups, vans and minivans, for the event.
Of this total, 270 will be adapted to carry handicapped and other people with special needs. Some 150 will be fitted out to carry a single wheelchair while 120 will be able to carry two wheelchairs.
Andrew Parsons, president of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, said: “Having Nissan do Brasil as the first sponsor of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is to start a partnership that has as its main link the convergence of philosophies.
“With Nissan’s experience in providing mobility to the handicapped, through their adapted vehicles, we can give athletes more autonomy until the Rio de Janeiro games.”
Under its deal for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Nissan is providing 4,500 vehicles of various makes to transport athletes, technical officials, media, operational teams, national Olympic committees, international sports federations, International Olympic Committee members and commercial partners.
The company has stressed that it is prioritising the use of clean energy motors to support efforts to achieve sustainability targets across both the Olympics and Paralympics.
At present, Nissan is one of five domestic tier-one partners of the Rio Olympics, alongside Bradesco Bradesco Seguros, Claro and Embratel, while Ernst & Young is currently the sole tier-two supporter.
