Field Hockey - 05 Nov 2012 - Leandro Negre, president of the FIH, was, as expected, re-elected for a new four-year term at the head of field hockey’s world governing body at its congress in Kuala Lumpur at the weekend, after standing unopposed for the post.
The federation will also have a new executive board, after five members were elected, four as newcomers.
Negre said: “I thank all of the countries and delegates for putting their faith in me for another term. We have accomplished a lot in the last four years, but there is still work to be done and many new exciting projects to tackle.”
Three women were newly elected to the executive board. Canada’s Mary Cicinelli, England’s Sue Catton and Argentina’s Sandra Isola were all elected in the first round of voting, replacing Wales’ Anne Ellis and Canada’s Sue Neill, who were retiring from the board, along with Australia’s Renita Gerard, who was not re-elected.
The two remaining board places went to standing member Jan Albers of the Netherlands and Malaysia’s HRH Prince Abdullah Shah. Germany’s Stephan Abel was not re-elected.
