DFB Names Four Prospective Cities for Euro 2020 Bid and Signs up New Sponsor |

Football - 23 Jan 2013 - The DFB, the German soccer federation, has said that it could propose one of four stadia in the cities of Berlin, Dortmund, Munich and Stuttgart to host matches at soccer’s 2020 European Championships, which look set to be staged in up to 13 European locations.
Uefa, soccer’s European governing body, has agreed in principle to staging the tournament across Europe in a unique pan-continental hosting plan, and the DFB is among the national associations in Europe interested in staging matches.
Uefa intends to host Euro 2020 in up to 13 stadia across Europe, including one host city for both semi-finals and the final, and Wolfgang Niersbach, the DFB president, told Germany’s Sport Bild magazine: "For the last three games a stadium capacity of 70,000 has been discussed. For all other cities and stadiums we are currently talking about a 50,000 capacity.
"This would mean that the DFB could put forward one of the four stadiums in Berlin, Munich, Dortmund and Stuttgart for the group stages."
The DFB is keener to bid for two group stage games as opposed to the final matches as it would mean that Germany would definitely have two ‘home’ group games in the competition.
Berlin’s Olympiastadion, Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park and Munich’s Allianz Arena all have a capacity of over 70,000, but only the stadium in Berlin has a seated capacity exceeding that figure, as the venues in Dortmund and Munich have terraced areas that cannot be used for international matches, according to Uefa regulations.
Stuttgart’s Mercedez-Benz Arena has a capacity of just over 60,000, but the capacity for international matches is around 55,000.
Niersbach said that he believes that any two host cities in each group should not be more than a four-hour plane journey apart.
Uefa decided to press ahead with a multi-country European Championships in 2020 as part of plans to mark the 60th anniversary of the competition but also to avoid a clash with the Olympic Games as Turkey was in the running to host both events that year.
Meanwhile, the DFB has announced a sponsorship deal with Flyeralarm, the online printing firm.
Flyeralarm becomes a new premium partner of the women’s international team in an agreement that runs until 2015 and also includes the sponsorship of the women’s youth teams.
Flyeralarm joins Commerzbank and Deutsche Post as the premium partners of the women’s international team, the sponsorship tier beneath main sponsor Allianz.
The sponsor will enjoy branding on the backdrop at the women’s team’s press conferences, and has also acquired a package of pitchside advertising rights at matches of the women’s national team in a deal with Infront Sports and Media, the Switzerland-based international sports marketing agency.
The sponsor has also renewed a deal with Infront for pitchside advertising at the matches of the men’s international team.
