Olympics - 30 Jan 2013 - Jacques Rogge, the International Olympic Committee’s president, has welcomed what he called the “impressive progress” made with preparations to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2014, on a visit to host city Nanjing in China.
Following his official visit, Rogge said: “Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the talented NYOGOC team, impressive progress has been made. I am in absolutely no doubt that the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will be a great success and inspire young people from the city, nation and around the world to become more active in sport.”
Rogge’s visit encompassed meetings with senior executives of NYOGOC, the organising committee, plus staff, volunteers and junior consultants, as well as a tour of the Youth Olympic Village, which is presently under construction.
Next year’s event will be the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games, regarded as Rogge’s own brainchild, following the inaugural edition in Singapore in 2010.
