Olympics - 08 Mar 2013 - The International Olympic Committee has invited India’s sports minister for talks aimed at ending the suspension of the Indian Olympic Association, in a move that has been welcomed by Indian government officials.
The IOA was suspended in December in a long-running wrangle over its elections and the Indian government’s Sports Code, which imposes age and tenure limits on Indian sports officials, that are, the IOC maintains, in breach of the Olympic charter.
PK Deb, the secretary of India's sports ministry, told Reuters: “It's definitely a very positive development. We believe it's not going to be just one single meeting but the first in a series of meetings with the IOC.
“I am not sure if the minister will be able to make it since the parliament is in session but I will be definitely going to Lausanne to meet the IOC.”
The invitation from the IOC asked for a meeting by the end of March and also requested a “concrete proposal” for the resolution of the dispute.
