Equestrianism's Longines Global Champions Tour, a series of prestigious show jumping events, has announced a new location for the London leg in 2014.
The iconic Horse Guards Parade, which staged beach volleyball during the London 2012 Olympics, will host the world’s leading show jumpers from August 14 to 16.
London's Olympic Park hosted the the city's debut appearance on the Global Champions Tour this year, which was watched by almost one million people on the BBC, the UK's public-service broadcaster.
Jan Tops, president of the Longines Global Champions Tour, said: “London is one of the world’s great capital cities and I am delighted to bring the world’s best riders to this unique site at Horse Guards Parade Ground. It is a privilege to stage the London event at this famous and iconic location. Spectators will be able to watch the best riders in the world up close, and we want to welcome people who are fans of show jumping and those who are new to the sport. I am sure this will be a great flagship event in the 2014 championship series.”
Antwerp in Belgium will appear on the Global Champions Tour for the first time in 2014, joining Chantilly and Cannes (France), Monaco, Hamburg, Madrid, London, Valkenswaard (Netherlands) and Estoril (Portugal) as European destinations.
Other events will be held across Asia and the Middle East.
