Midea, the Chinese electrical appliance manufacturer, said today that it has renewed its sponsorship deal with FINA, swimming's international governing body, until 2017.
Julio Maglione, president of FINA, was in Guangzhou, China today to officially sign the four-year contract extension.
As an official partner of FINA in the domestic appliances category, Midea's sponsorship deal covers the 2014 and 2016 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Doha, Qatar and Windsor, Canada, respectively, and the 2015 and 2017 World Championships in Kazan, Russia and Guadalajara, Mexico, respectively.
Midea will also sponsor FINA's World Record Programme for the four events.
Midea's previous four-year sponsorship deal with FINA expired last year.
Maglione said: "This association between our international federation and Midea is of great value for the entire aquatic family, for the development of our disciplines, not only in China but around the world.
“The FINA World Championships is broadcast in over 200 territories and reached, for the last edition in Barcelona 2013, a total of 4.5 billion cumulative TV viewers worldwide. These impressive figures constitute a great benefit to Midea and to all our partners."
