Kia Motors has today extended its sponsorship of top international competitions organised by World Archery until the end of 2015.
Under the deal, the Korean car manufacturer remains the official car sponsor of the Archery World Cup series, which starts later this month in Shanghai in China and visits Medellin in Colombia, Antalya in Turkey and Wroclaw in Poland before the final in Lausanne in Switzerland in September.
Kia has backed the Archery World Cup since the launch of the series in 2006, and last year expanded its sponsorship of the sport to support programming and awareness campaigns on Eurosport, the pan-European sports broadcaster.
In February, Eurosport announced a new three-year deal with World Archery to televise the federation’s major competitions, including the Archery World Cup and the World Archery Championships.
Kia was drawn to archery in part because of the success of South Korea in the sport (the country won three of the four gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics) and this is expected to continue at the 2014 Asian Games on home soil in Incheon.
However, the company’s overseas subsidiaries and distributors have supported events across the globe, including supplying official vehicles for the 2013 World Archery Championships in Belek in Antalya, and this year’s World Archery Indoor Championships in Nimes in France.
Tom Dielen, the secretary general of World Archery, said: "World Archery’s long-standing relationship with Kia has been crucial in the success of the Archery World Cup since its inception. With Kia Motors’ continued support, the sport will continue its adventurous approach to finding iconic and unusual venues to host international events and broadcast them worldwide."Sportcal
