The FIVB, the international governing body for volleyball, has appointed Mario Medeiros, who worked for the organising committee for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, to the new position of sponsorship sales director at the federation.
Medeiros will focus on sponsorship and sales strategy around major FIVB events, including the 2014 Men’s World Championship in Poland from August 30 to September 21 and the Women’s World Championship in Italy from September 23 to October 12.
Other future events seeking sponsors include the 2015 Beach Volleyball World Championships in the Netherlands and tournaments in the annual World League for men and World Grand Prix for women.
Medeiros has moved from his role as sponsorship sales manager for Rio 2016, at which volleyball and beach volleyball will be two of the most popular sports.
The FIVB said of its new appointment: "The sponsorship sales director is a new position in a new department, illustrating the FIVB’s emphasis on growth and development not only in the sport of volleyball but within the organisation as well."
