The DHB, the German handball federation, has a new main sponsor in place after a four-year agreement with AOK, the German health insurance firm, was brokered by Sportfive Germany, the German arm of the international sports marketing agency.
In addition to becoming the shirt sponsor of the men’s national team, AOK has been named as the official health partner of the DHB under the seven-figure agreement.
The German team will sport shirts with the AOK logo for the first time this evening when they take on Norway in Wetzlar.
AOK will also enjoy branding on courtside medical cases and have the opportunity to engage with fans at promotional stands.
The men’s team has been without a shirt sponsor since previous main sponsor getgoods.de, the online electronics store, initiated insolvency proceedings in November last year and an agreement due to run until 2017 was scrapped.
German press reports had indicated that the sponsorship agreement with getgoods.de was worth around €800,000 ($1.09 million) per year.
