With the greatest of sadness, ASOIF has learnt of the death of its Council member and great international sports leader, Patrick Baumann, in Buenos Aires, during the Youth Olympic Games.
We offer our sincere condolences to his young family at this difficult time.
Generous of mind and spirit, Patrick’s eagerness to help and support while never being afraid to take on difficult roles and challenges, defined his massive contribution to sport and the Olympic Movement.
His commitment to the International Federations (IFs) knew no bounds as he managed his leadership role within one of our biggest sports, basketball, as Secretary General of FIBA, and worked tirelessly as President of GAISF and the SportAccord Convention guiding them through a turbulent period. He was always at the forefront of IF representation as a member of the WADA Executive Committee, its Foundation Board and many International Olympic Committee senior positions.
Always innovative, available and pleased to contribute, he will be sadly missed by us all and remembered for his humor, generosity, friendship, belief in the potential of sport to contribute to society and commitment to giving everything to any task he was ever asked to take on.
Our thoughts are with his family.
