Haderslev in Denmark is to host the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in 2022, the UCI, cycling’s international governing body, has announced.
The event will be organised by the Danish Cycling Federation in collaboration with the Triangle Region Denmark, Haderslev Municipality and Sport Event Denmark, the country’s event hosting body.
Henrik Jess Jensen, president of the DCF, said: ’‘The Danish Cycling Federation is very eager to build on the momentum we have started with off-road biking. In 2019, we look forward to welcoming the World Championship in Cyclo-Cross and we are very happy to welcome the best mountain bikers to Denmark 3 years later. We are experiencing rapid growth in numbers of mountain bikers, so it is just the right time for us to have an MTB-event of this magnitude in Denmark’’.
The next edition of the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships will take place in Auronzo in Italy on 15 September 2018.
The 2019 event will be held in Grachen, Switzerland, which will be followed as host by Sakarya in Turkey in 2020.
Denmark adds the mountain bike event to its hosting of the forthcoming 2019 Cyclo-cross World Championships.
The latter event will be staged in Bogense, on the island of Fyn, with the location also awarded a round of the 2017-18 Telenet UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup as a test event.
Denmark last hosted the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Middelfart in 1998.
