Eurosport serves up ITTF rights renewal

Eurosport, the Discovery-owned pan-European sports broadcaster, has extended its rights agreement with the International Table Tennis Federation until 2020.

Under the terms of the deal, Eurosport has committed to showing over 120 hours of live action from the ITTF’s major events, plus delayed coverage and highlights spread across the two Eurosport television channels and the Eurosport App.

Headline events covered by the deal include the ITTF World Championships, ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cups, the ITTF World Tour Platinum and ITTF World Tour Grand Finals.

Eurosport said that it would continue to “promote the ITTF’s events and commercial partnerships in Europe.”

Eurosport’s rights agreement with the ITTF began in 2014 when it showed seven events live from the ITTF World Tour in a deal brokered by TMS International, the world body’s erstwhile marketing arm.

Matt Pound, the ITTF’s head of media, said today: “Since taking its commercial rights in house in 2017, the ITTF has made commercial and media growth a priority for all our products and partnerships like this one with Eurosport is a testament to the new strategy.”

Laurent Prud'homme, Eurosport’s senior vice-president of rights acquisitions, added: “As home of the Olympics in Europe, Eurosport has a strong tradition of showcasing Olympic sports all-year round and we are pleased this agreement will contribute to this.”

Other events covered by the new agreement include the ETTU European Table Tennis Championships, the ITTF Team World Cup and the Table Tennis Top 16.
