FINA lands Chinese banking sponsor for Hangzhou World Championships

FINA, swimming’s international federation, has announced a sponsorship agreement with the credit card business unit of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.

China’s SPD Bank Credit Card Center has been named as an 'Official Partner' of this year’s FINA Swimming World Cup and the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), which will be held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou from 11 to 16 December.

The agreement marks the Shanghai-based company’s first sports sponsorship as it becomes FINA’s exclusive partner worldwide for banking and credit card services.

Julio Maglione, the FINA president, remarked: “FINA is very pleased to add SPD Bank Credit Card Centre to its Official Partners list and to team up with one of the most respected banks in China which will tremendously help promote swimming within the Chinese market. SPD Banks Credit Card Centre's support is of the utmost importance to achieve a successful strategy for those two major swimming competitions."

The seven-leg 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup begins next month in Kazan, Russia, and will visit Beijing at the start of November.

Earlier this year, FINA landed a Chinese firm as title sponsor of its Diving World Series, signing off a four-year deal with China National Sport Group, a state-owned organisation. CNSG replaced NVC Lighting, the Chinese lighting manufacturer, whose four-year deal expired at the end of 2017.
