Sport1 makes karate programming commitment

Highlights of the recent Karate World Championships are to be shown in Germany on Sport1, the Constantin Medien-owned free-to-air sports channel.

The Sport1 highlights will air at 2pm (CET) on Saturday 1 December. The World Championships took place in Madrid from 6 to 11 November.

Germany’s Jonathan Horne took the men’s +84kg title and Jana Bitsch won the silver medal in the women’s -55kg competition.

Sport1 has also committed to showing two karate highlights programmes in 2019, including coverage of the Karate1 Premier League and a show early next year offering “spectacular scenes and magazine reporting from the karate world.”

A two-year agreement with the DKV, the German karate federation, will allow Sport1 to report from Germany’s annual karate awards.

Media rights to the Karate1 Premier League and the World Championships are distributed by International Sports Broadcasting, the production company founded by Manolo Romero, in a deal running to 2020.
