St Petersburg, Tokyo and Guimarães awarded FIG World Championships

St Petersburg in Russia and Tokyo in Japan are to host the 2018 and 2019 Trampoline World Championships, respectively, the FIG, gymnastics’ international governing body, has announced. 

At is executive committee meeting in Tonsberg, Norway, the FIG awarded the relevant hosting rights to the Russian Gymnastics Federation and Japanese Gymnastics Association. 

St Petersburg Sport Complex will stage the 2018 event from 7 to 10 November, followed by the World Age Group Competitions from 15 to 18 November. The Russian city last staged the championships in 2009. 

The 2019 World Championships will take place at Tokyo’s gymnastics venue for the 2020 Olympic Games and will run from 29 November to 1 December. 

The event, which will act as a warm-up for the games, will be followed by the age group events from 5 to 8 December. Japan has not staged the event since 1984, when Osaka played host. 

Sofia, Bulgaria is hosting this year’s Trampoline World Championships from 5 to 8 November. 

Meanwhile, Guimarães in Portugal was awarded the 2018 Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships. 

The 15th edition of the competition will take place on 1 to 3 June next year, with the age group event running from 25 to 27 May.
