Besides demonstrating technical capabilities for hosting the event the newly appointed host cities were selected on their choice of extraordinary venues. Both the City of Edinburgh and the City of Istanbul will showcase the very best in archery at creative and memorable venues.
FITA in cooperation with TSE Consulting took the initiative in 2007 to make the World Cup Finals more attractive for potential hosts, athletes and spectators. The event was formatted in a way that a city's prime venue could be showcased to spectators and TV viewers during the event.
Dr Ugur Erdener, FITA President said "We are very pleased to have two wonderful cities as hosts for our 2010 and 2011 Archery World Cup Finals. The World Cup circuit continues to build recognition and attract both athletes and fans to the sport and has now also attracted two new host city partners. With such strong and creative partners on board we have the platform to continue to build an even greater future for archery".
Mr Steve Cardownie, Deputy Leader and the city's Festivals and Events Champion City of Edinburgh Councillor stated "This is another huge honour for the city and underlines the high regard in which Edinburgh is held worldwide. We look forward to hosting the Archery World Cup in 2010 and I am certain it will be the best ever and a real attraction as we get closer to the Olympic Games in London".
Paul Bush, Chief Operating Officer of EventScotland the country's national events agency said "We welcome the decision from the International Archery Federation to award Edinburgh the World Cup Final in 2010. With significant international TV and internet broadcast coverage the event will provide us with a great opportunity to showcase Edinburgh and Scotland to a massive audience and show that Scotland really does provide the perfect stage for events".
Mrs Lynne Evans, ArcheryGB Chairman added "Edinburgh is a fantastic capital in which to stage the event with its historic archery tradition and providing a fabulous backdrop to the modern image of our sport. This also automatically qualifies our archers for four placesone in each categorywith a possibility of up to eight places in 2010".
Mr Ikler Astaci, Head of Sport for the City of Istanbul said "Together with the support from our national government, Istanbul has built a strong platform upon which sports organizations are invited to showcase their events. The 2011 Archery World Cup Final is a wonderful addition to the exciting list of international events Turkey will be hosting in the coming years. Among others this includes the 2008 UEFA Cup Final, 2009 CEV Men's European Volleyball Championships, 2010 Basketball World Championships, 2012 World Indoor Athletics Championships, 2012 World Championships in 25m swimming and the Women Tennis Masters in 2010-2013. With each passing event we become more prepared for the next challenge. We look forward to the exciting years and opportunities to come".
The Archery World Cup consists of four stages held in spectacular venues around the world all culminating in a grand World Cup Final where only the top archers compete over two days. This year's World Cup Final will be held on 27th of September in the Olympic Capital Lausanne, Switzerland, following successful legs in Santo Domingo - Dominican Republic, Porec - Croatia, Antalya - Turkey and Boe, France.
