ASOIF is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Gian-Franco Kasper, former President of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Honorary Member, at the age of 77. Mr Kasper served the FIS for 23 years as Secretary General and another 23 years as President and had recently stepped down. He was also the former President of the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF), and of Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).
During his time as AIOWF President (2000 to 2002, then 2014 to 2020), ASOIF had worked closely with Mr Kasper on many important items impacting the International Federations.
Mr Kasper was an IOC Member from 2000 until 2018, when he was elected as an IOC Honorary Member and received the Olympic Order. He served on the IOC Coordination Commissions for six Olympic Winter Games.
ASOIF President Francesco Ricci Bitti remembers a great personality and sports leader when he says: “We will always gratefully recall his enormous contributions to modern ski sport, winter sports and the Olympic Movement at large, together with his enormous dedication and commitment. He will be sadly missed by us and remembered for his friendship and generosity.”
ASOIF’s thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
