IFs explore, present and discuss innovative solutions at THE SPOT

This week, ASOIF’s member federations joined THE SPOT, an international sport and innovation event organised by ThinkSport on 17 and 18 May in Lausanne, Switzerland.

According to an innovation survey sent to ASOIF members in 2021, most International Federations (IFs) do see the necessity for their organisations to be innovative, especially in the fields of event broadcasting and production, fan engagement and esports or gaming. The pandemic has further increased the speed and scope of innovations and at THE SPOT 2022, IFs were able to explore and understand the latest trends and solutions; connect with experts in innovation; look at best practice from other sectors; and exchange with other IF colleagues. The event also provided the opportunity to directly interact with sport technology start-ups and find potential innovative solutions in a cost-effective manner.

A few ASOIF member IFs presented their innovation initiatives at the event. For instance, UCI and World Athletics shared their efforts and experience in the field of sustainability during the session on the Air Quality & Sport Challenge. Both IFs were official supporters of the Challenge which aimed to generate viable and creative solutions to tackle climate change in sporting environments. Meanwhile, FIVB contributed their expertise and insights during the workshops on the future of fan engagement as well as on investment trends in sport.

ASOIF has been participating actively in THE SPOT since the inaugural edition in 2018. This year, its Technology and Innovation Consultative Group (TICG), composed of sport technology and innovation experts from the Olympic Movement, held its annual meeting at the sidelines of the event.

THE SPOT was co-organised by ThinkSport, the SwissTech Convention Center, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the Canton of Vaud.
