Statement by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF)

Following the Olympic Summit in December 2022 and the recent statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on solidarity with Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and Belarus, and the status of athletes from these countries, ASOIF took the position to:

• support the spirit of the IOC’s proposal and to further explore the suggested concept linked to it;
• stress the importance of respecting the specificity of each federation and their particular qualification process for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games;
• highlight the right of all athletes to be treated without any discrimination, with inclusion sending a strong message of peace; and
• reiterate the necessity to prevent interference in sport matters by public authorities.

The ASOIF Council will discuss this pressing and sensitive matter during its official meeting on 3 March 2023.

ASOIF condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and reiterates its full solidarity with the Ukrainian sport community, and the Ukrainian people at large.
