Egypt will host the World Fencing Championships in 2021, the FIE, the sport's international governing body, has announced.
The north African country was unopposed in the bidding, picking up 126 of the 133 votes on offer at the FIE Congress in Lausanne.
There were four votes against and three abstentions.
The annual World Fencing Championships has only been staged in Africa once before, and indeed that was in the Egyptian capital Cairo way back in 1949.
Egypt will also hold the Junior World Championships in 2021.
The FIE has also opened the bidding process for the 2022 World Fencing Championships.
This year's championships took place in Budapest, Hungary.
Meanwhile, the FIE congress also approved the federation's budget for 2020, which anticipates total income of SFr21.4 million, of which SFr15 million will come from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games-related revenue. A surplus for the year of around SFr11 million is expected.
