Olympics - 08 Nov 2012 - Soslan Tigiev, an Uzbekistani wrestler who won a bronze medal at this summer’s London Olympic Games, was yesterday stripped of the medal by the International Olympic Committee after testing positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine on August 10.
The IOC said in its ruling: “The NOC [national Olympic committee] of Uzbekistan is ordered to return to the IOC, as soon as possible, the medal, diploma and medallist pin awarded to the athlete."
Gabor Hatos of Hungary, who Tigiev beat in the bronze medal match, will be upgraded to receive the medal.
Tigiev is the second athlete from the London Olympics to be stripped of a medal because of a doping violation after Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus lost her gold medal in the women's shot put having tested positive for the steroid metenolone.
