After a period of 14 years in office, Jordi Serra, the ITTF Executive Director – Operations and Olympic Games, concluded his full-time employment with the International Table Tennis Federation on Monday 31st December 2012.
However, he will not be lost totally to the International Table Tennis Federation.
He is to become an Independent Sports Consultant.
It is on this basis, will offer his services, as needed, to the sport of table tennis.
Previous Roles
Quietly spoken and always most approachable, Jordi Serra assumed the role of ITTF Executive Director in 1998, having previously been the President of the Catalan Table Tennis Association and the Competition Director and Venue Manager for the table tennis events at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.
Reliable Support
“Jordi Serra served the ITTF for 14 years maintaining steady administration and financial stability for our Federation from our headquarters in Lausanne”, said Adham Sharara, ITTF President. “As President of the ITTF I could not have accomplished any of our achievements without the steady support and knowledge of Jordi Serra.”
Olympic Games
A major role for Jordi Serra was the responsibility undertaken on behalf of the International Table Tennis Federation for the Olympic Games.
“He also specialized, based on his experience in Barcelona 1992, in helping the ITTF get closer to the IOC and be a full partner of the Olympic movement”, continued Adham Sharara. “Jordi's pleasant personality and wisdom will be greatly missed.”
New Capacity
Thankfully it is not farewell, more a change of direction.
“However, as we all know, "All good things must come to an end"; in this case, we can say that it is not the end, but a "new" beginning”, added Adham Sharara. “Jordi has agreed to provide consultancy work to the ITTF in his new capacity as a private Sport Consultant; so, although Jordi's full-time position with the ITTF has ended, we look forward to working with Jordi's new consultancy firm for many years to come."
We wish Jordi Serra the very best for his new endeavour and for the New Year.
