Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, will host badminton's World Championships in 2015, after seeing off a rival bid from Kunshan, in the Jiangsu province of China.
It will be the third time that Jakarta has staged badminton's showpiece event, following previous occasions in 1980 and 1989.
The council of the Badminton World Federation took the decision at its annual meeting in Athens, Greece yesterday, where Dongguan in China and Helsingborg in Sweden were awarded hosting rights to the 2015 Sudirman Cup and World Senior Championships, respectively.
Both cities were unopposed in the bidding.
Poul-Erik Høyer, president of the BWF, said: "We have been impressed by the technically sound and competent bids. There is clearly significant experience among you in hosting events and in certain instances, specifically badminton events.”
The Sudirman Cup, the world mixed team championship, and the World Senior Championships are held every other year, with Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Ankara in Turkey having been the respective hosts in 2013.
Guangzhou in China staged this year's World Championships and the annual tournament will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2014.
