Creative Sports Award

The 12th Edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award has announced its winners on 22 November 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) won the International Organisation Award as an ASOIF member federation. An award ceremony was held in Dubai on 10 January 2024.

The International Organisation category of the Award is open to the Summer Olympic International Federations. The theme of this edition is Sports as a universal language and a soft power capable of shaping the future. It is designed to celebrate the best sport projects, programmes and initiatives that have contributed to the empowerment of societies through sports.

All ASOIF members have been invited to submit their entries for the Award before 31 August 2023. Through the Award's official application platform, the International Federations could present their sport projects, initiatives or programmes that take place between 16 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. Each submission will be evaluated according to the criteria by a group of referees appointed by the Award's Board of Trustees. The winning International Federation will be presented with the Order of Merit and a financial reward of AED 1,000,000 (approximately USD 272,000) for use in its development activities.

The timeline of the Award is as follows:

  • 31 August 2023: Deadline of applications submission
  • September - October 2023: Evaluation process for selecting the winner
  • 22 November 2023: Announcement of the winner
  • 10 January 2024: Awarding Ceremony

 


INTRODUCTION

Launched in 2009 under the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the Creative Sports Award aims to promote entrepreneurship, sports creativity and to empower communities by honouring outstanding individuals, teams and organisations, highlighting their achievements and promoting the role of sports as a means for human creativity.

Since 2013, ASOIF members have been invited to participate in the Award. It is designed to celebrate and encourage sport projects, initiatives and programmes that demonstrate outstanding creativity and contribute to the enrichment of sport. The winning International Federation will be presented with a financial reward for use in its development activities.

OBJECTIVES OF THE AWARD

  • To appreciate and motivate sports achievements of individuals, teams and organisations; and to promote them globally.
  • To contribute to shaping the future of sports creativity.
  • To inspire the private sector to invest in sports through sponsoring the creative athletes.

CATEGORIES OF THE AWARD

The International Category is designed for the international sport organisations, including the Summer Olympic International Federations. There are another three categories designed for the local and Arab levels: Individual, Team and Corporate.
