Next week, the 49th General Assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) will take place on 11 June 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland. This year’s gathering of ASOIF’s membership will be led for the first time by the new ASOIF President, Ingmar De Vos, who officially started his mandate on 1 January 2025.
During the meeting, the General Assembly will vote to elect four Council members from a total of seven candidates who were nominated by their respective International Federation (IF). They will run for election for three positions on the Council for the period 2025-2029 and one position for the period 2025-2027.
Following a recent membership survey initiated by Ingmar De Vos to capture members’ insights, the General Assembly will also exchange views about ASOIF’s Strategic Plan for the future.
IF governance remains a priority and the General Assembly will receive an update on the Sixth Review of International Federation Governance which will kick off in autumn. This regular assessment is based on a full set of governance principles and indicators tailored to the specific characteristics and needs of sport organisations.
Another item on the agenda will be World Boxing’s application for ASOIF’s Associate Membership. In February, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) granted the provisional recognition of World Boxing as the IF within the Olympic Movement governing the sport of boxing at world level. A month later, the IOC Session approved the inclusion of boxing on the LA28 Olympic sports programme.
The General Assembly will also receive in-person reports from the IOC, the Olympic Games Organising Committees for LA28 and Brisbane 2032, the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee for the Youth Olympic Games, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Testing Agency.
